Overview

During her time with Price Waterhouse, Ann Hopkins proved herself to be an indispensable worker. Her peers describe her as "hardworking, determined, and relentless," noting the superior quality of her work and teams. In her time with the firm, she was responsible for developing upwards of 50 million dollars. This figure becomes even more staggering considering Hopkins brought in more money than any other candidate proposed for partnership in 1982. Still, despite her glowing reviews and stellar work ethic, Hopkins was denied partnership not once, but twice.

The problem? Her interpersonal skills.

For every positive review, there was one criticizing her "interpersonal skills" and appearance. She was "abrasive" and "irritating" and needed to put "a little sugar on her tongue" if she ever dreamed of making partner.
